RP Error Characterization

Parties Involved:

  • Student(s): Andre Claudet
    Faculty Member(s):  R. Fujimoto
    Industry Member(s):  NSF

Brief Project Description:

  • The objective of this project is to characterize SFF processes and encode their characteristics for use in the SLA process design.
  • Primary research issues include:
    1. Quantification of systematic errors of SLA systems
    2. Development of methods by which SLA systems can be validated and calibrated
    3. Direct feedback to SLA controller from metrology systems to "invert" anticipated deviations from target geometry.
  • Our research approach is as followed:
    1. First to measure tool inserts produced by RP methods using currently available metrology and inspection systems.
    2. The systematic deviations from nominal geometry will be modeled by using a variety of geometrical methods.
  • This work is closely related to the Rapid Inspection and Computer-Aided Verification projects.
