What some people are saying about
the Build Time Estimator
Dear Joel,
This is really fine !
I am very much interested in your work, as we already implemented a
simple build time estimator within our RP System Selector.
(See http://www.biba.uni-bremen.de/groups/rp/rp_selec.html).
Naturally, we are interested in enhancing our system (and I am interested
in using RP system selection as >my horse
Joel,
I down loaded your estimator this morning (SGI Indy)and tried it on 2
recent builds. The first one was off by about 9% (13hr build) while the
second was only off by 2.4% (33hr build) Do you find shorter build to
less accurate? Good work!

Joel:
I "fooled" the 3D Systems' workstation into creating an SLA-250 build
file (your estimator's standard input) for my SLA-500 builds. I forgot
how HUGE the SLA-250's .v file is versus the .bff file for the SLA-500.
I plugged the data into your build estimator and was within 1 hour of
actual for a 20 hour build w/6 individual pieces, and a 24 hour build of
2 individual pieces. The former estimated 1 hour high while the latter
estimated 1 hour low. Each build had several recoater ranges with single
and multiple sweeps for trapped volumes. I'm certain some error in my
results occur while converting recoating time (sweep speed, Z-Stage
speed) from SLA500 units to SLA250 equivalents. If I have time, I'll
slice a highchair seat to get a read on the results of an 1
8" tall build!
GREAT JOB. I'M IMPRESSED!!

G'day Joel,
I would like to congratulate you on a fine effort in respect to you
build time estimator. I have tested it over the internet on a small
job I ran today.
Your estimated time for the run was 5:36
Actual run time was 5:34
Error less than one percent.
Just give you a little background on us, I run the SLA Lab here at
the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT). Were we have
installed a SLA 250/40 running a 40Mw laser.
Best regards

Down loaded your estimator. Tried it on a 49 hour build on an SLA-250
and found it to be 1 hour high. Looks good, this will save a lot of
guessing!

Build time 9 hr 47 min, estimator 9 hr 53 min.
Do you have an estimator for the SL5170 weave build style?

Joel,
My name is Dave Young. I work for Lever Brothers Ltd in Port Sunlight
England. (Detergent manufacturers and part of the Unilever world
empire.) I've been evaluating your build time estimator program and
like it very much. It's accurate and easy to use. The ability to
'estimate' build times has allowed us to plan our use of our SLA-250
more effectively, and for that I thank you. By the way. You
mentioned in your read me text file that a PC version of the program
may be developed. If this is so, how can I obtain a copy?
Cheers,
Dave
Hello Joel,
I have them sliced allready and the parts are build too. The building was
interrupted by a failure of the cooling system. I need to know the
correct build time of these three parts for my dissertation and there are no
funds for repeating the whole thing. I thought your build time estimator
could be of help for me.
